Understanding and tracking your pet’s overall health through regular blood tests.
When our pets are sick, we often rely on their behaviour as an indication that there is something wrong. However, pets oftentimes don't act any differently and any potential illness can advance before we notice anything. Bloodwork is essential to monitor the health of your pet and allows us to detect health risks early on and treat them as soon as possible. There are many situations in which we may recommend bloodwork. One of the most common examples is routine bloodwork testing during annual exams, as it allows us to identify conditions a physical examination may not reveal. This is extremely beneficial for senior pets as we want to ensure they can live a long, healthy life. Bloodwork should also be performed prior to any surgery requiring general anesthetic, as this will determine if anesthesia is safe for your pet. It can also be helpful for pets that will be on long-term medications to track your pet's liver and kidney functions.
Drawing blood from your pet is a quick process that only lasts a few seconds. Although your pet may feel a slight pinch as the needle enters, they carry on as normal for the rest of the process.
